Description

Like a celestial rose perched amidst a sea of stars, the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) and the associated open cluster of stars at its center (NGC 2244), are located at one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of our galaxy as seen from the Earth. The nebula is approximately 5,000 light years away and spans a whopping 130 light years in diameter!

I have always wanted to capture the Rosette Nebula ever since I got into astrophotography. However, the nebula hangs very low in sky at these northern latitudes of Seattle, and the large swaths of trees by our house also preclude the view of that part of the sky. I was finally able make this dream come true via the 16” f/3.75 Dreamscope Astrograph that I am renting from the deserts of Utah. Generating this final image required over 18 hours of data in R, G, B and Hydrogen-Alpha.
